medical
Pertaining, relating or belonging to the study and practice of medicine, or the science and art of the investigation, prevention, cure, and alleviation of disMedical care. The term "medical care" is defined broadly in the Internal Revenue Code (I.R.C. No. 213) and more comprehensively in the regulations. It includes expenses for doctors, nurses and other medical services, as well as payments for operations, hospitals, institutional care and transportation necessary to obtain medical care. The basic test for the allowance of medical deductions is whether the expense was incurred and paid primarily for the prevention or alleviation of a physical or mental defect or illness. Edward A. Harvey, 12 T.C. 409 (1949).
